St. Louis, Mo. – Dangerous heat continues across eastern and central Missouri Tuesday, with a Heat Advisory in effect south of Interstate 70 until 8 p.m. Residents in St. Louis, Columbia, and surrounding counties may also see thunderstorms that could bring gusty winds late in the afternoon.
According to the National Weather Service in St. Louis, high temperatures will reach the mid-90s, but heat index values could soar to 105. Isolated storms are most likely between 3 and 8 p.m., especially along and just south of I-70, where conditions may briefly intensify. Gusty winds are the primary hazard, though lightning and heavy downpours cannot be ruled out.
The Missouri Department of Transportation is urging drivers to take precautions if storms develop, as quick downpours may reduce visibility on highways including I-70, I-55, and I-44. Officials recommend avoiding outdoor work during peak heat and staying hydrated throughout the day.
Relief arrives Wednesday with mostly sunny skies, highs in the upper 80s, and lower humidity. No additional hazardous weather is expected for the rest of the week.
