St. Louis County, MO – Several lanes of eastbound Interstate 70 at the Blanchette Bridge have reopened after being closed early Tuesday morning due to an officer-involved shooting investigation, according to the St. Louis County Police Department.
Authorities said the closure affected eastbound I-70 near the Earth City Expressway as officers investigated the scene. The incident began when police responded to a report of a suicidal individual armed with a gun in the area.
According to police, an officer located a woman matching the description. When she allegedly pointed a firearm at the officer, he discharged his weapon, grazing her. The woman was transported to a hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. The officer was not injured.
Traffic on eastbound I-70 was heavily impacted during the investigation but has since resumed. Officials advised drivers leaving St. Charles County and heading into St. Louis County to use alternate routes such as Interstate 370, I-64, or the Page Extension to avoid lingering delays.
The investigation remains ongoing. Residual traffic may continue to affect morning commutes across the Blanchette Bridge corridor.
