St. Louis County, MO – A New Year’s Eve scare in south St. Louis County ended safely Wednesday night after police reunited a mother with her 1-year-old child following a brief car theft in the city’s Bevo neighborhood, according to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department (SLMPD).
Investigators said the child’s mother had left her Jetta running while picking up food when a suspect allegedly jumped into the car and drove away — with the baby still inside. Officers immediately launched a search across the area.
Within about 30 minutes, SLMPD officers located the vehicle and child a short distance away. The baby was found safe and unharmed, police said, and quickly reunited with their mother.
Authorities are continuing to investigate and have not released details on the suspect.
Anyone with information is urged to contact SLMPD District 1 at (314) 444-0100 or CrimeStoppers.
