Brooklyn, Illinois – A fresh round of severe thunderstorms is set to pound the St. Louis metro area Monday, threatening travel on I-64 and flooding low-lying roads across southwestern Illinois.
According to the National Weather Service, rain will begin overnight and intensify by 7 a.m. Monday, with possible heavy downpours and thunderstorms rolling through Brooklyn, East St. Louis, and surrounding cities. Southeast winds will reach up to 9 mph as the chance of precipitation holds at 100%. Some storms could produce localized flash flooding and ponding on roads during the morning commute.
Expect high temperatures near 78°F Monday before showers and storms continue into Monday night. The NWS warns the storms may become more organized after dark, with lightning and periods of heavy rainfall. Drivers should avoid low-lying roads and monitor traffic alerts, especially along I-64 and near flood-prone areas like Bunkum Road and Route 157.
Tuesday stays stormy, with a 90% chance of rain and a high near 80°F. Thunderstorms may again develop by afternoon, making conditions unstable for most of the day. Utility outages and traffic slowdowns could result from wind and heavy rain.
Looking ahead, Wednesday offers a brief reprieve with partly cloudy skies and cooler temps in the low 60s, but another storm chance returns by Wednesday night. Thursday and Friday bring milder Spring conditions with highs near 70°F and 74°F, though slight rain chances linger through Saturday.
Stay weather-aware and check updates frequently—storm warnings remain possible through midweek.
