St. Joseph, MO – A coordinated traffic enforcement effort in northwest Missouri resulted in dozens of citations and several arrests, according to the St. Joseph Police Department. The joint operation, held on November 8, brought together the St. Joseph Police, the Missouri State Highway Patrol, and the agency’s Aircraft Division to improve roadway safety and deter impaired driving.

According to the department’s official release, officers and troopers conducted 77 traffic stops during the effort. The enforcement led to 43 citations and 73 warnings for various violations. Authorities also reported multiple arrests, including four for driving while intoxicated (DWI), one for possession of a controlled substance, and the recovery of a stolen vehicle.

The department said that in four separate incidents, drivers allegedly fled from police but were later safely apprehended with the assistance of the Highway Patrol’s helicopter. The cases have been referred to the Buchanan County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for review of potential aggravated fleeing charges.

St. Joseph Police Chief Paul Luster praised the collaboration, noting that teamwork between state and local agencies plays a vital role in keeping the community safe. “By working together, we can more effectively identify unsafe drivers, remove impaired motorists from the road, and ensure everyone arrives home safely,” Luster said.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol echoed the sentiment in a social media post late Monday, highlighting the teamwork that “makes a difference across Missouri.”
