South Bend, IN – Residents across St. Joseph County are bracing for a major winter storm that could bring intense snowfall rates of up to 2 inches per hour Sunday night through early Monday. The US National Weather Service Northern Indiana has issued a Winter Storm Watch in effect from 4 p.m. Sunday to 7 p.m. Monday (Nov. 10, 2025, EST).

Rain will develop through Sunday before transitioning to heavy snow overnight, with 6–12 inches of total accumulation likely across the county. Locally higher amounts are possible in lake-effect zones and elevated areas.

Forecasters warn that the heaviest snow bands will hit Sunday night into Monday morning, creating dangerous travel conditions with rapid accumulation, snow-covered roads, and near-zero visibility at times.

The South Bend and Mishawaka areas could experience major travel disruptions for both the Monday morning and evening commutes. According to the Weather Service, snowfall rates of 1–2 inches per hour could make plowing difficult to keep up with, especially before dawn.

Motorists are urged to avoid unnecessary travel, allow extra time, and monitor updates through weather.gov/iwx. Forecasters caution this could be the first significant snow event of the season for St. Joseph County.
