St. John, IN – A 15-year-old student was taken into police custody Thursday morning after allegedly making verbal threats to “shoot up the school” at Lake Central High School.
According to the St. John Police Department, school administrators were made aware of the alleged threat around 8 a.m., prompting an immediate investigation. Authorities detained the student, and no weapons were found. Police confirmed there is no ongoing danger to the school.
The teen was transported to the Lake County Juvenile Detention facility in Crown Point and preliminarily charged with Intimidation – Communicating a Threat to a School, classified as a Level 5 felony.
Law enforcement officials thanked school resource officers, administrators, and the Lake County Prosecutor’s Office for their swift response. The St. John Police Department reiterated that all threats against schools are taken seriously and will be dealt with swiftly.
