St. Clair Township, MI – A deadly house fire early Wednesday morning claimed the life of a 47-year-old woman in St. Clair Township, prompting an active investigation by the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office.
According to the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched around 2:20 a.m. to the 4300 block of Yankee Road for reports of a house fire with people possibly trapped inside. When deputies arrived, they found a 73-year-old woman and a 16-year-old girl on the front porch, safely outside the home.
Authorities say another female was still trapped inside the residence as heavy smoke and flames filled the first floor and spread throughout the home. Deputies reportedly made multiple attempts to enter the house but were unable to reach the victim due to the intense conditions.
St. Clair Area Fire Authority crews arrived shortly after and were able to rescue the trapped woman by pulling her out through a second-story window, officials said. The woman was later identified as 47-year-old Laura Bramlett.
According to authorities, Bramlett was transported by TriHospital EMS to McLaren Macomb Hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.
The extent of injuries to the other individuals was not released, and officials have not announced whether the home had working smoke detectors.
Detectives with the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office are continuing to investigate the cause of the fire. No additional details have been released as of Wednesday morning.
