St. Albans, VT – A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect across northern Vermont and portions of northern New York through 7 p.m. Monday as snow and gusty winds continue to create slippery and hazardous travel conditions.

According to the National Weather Service in Burlington, additional snow accumulations of up to 4 inches are expected across Eastern Addison, Western Franklin, Eastern Rutland and Essex counties, bringing storm totals to 2–5 inches for most areas. Higher terrain along northwesterly and westerly slopes may see 6–8 inches, particularly near Ripton, Killington and the mountainous areas of Eastern Rutland County.

Across the border in Northern Franklin and Western Essex counties in New York—including Lake Placid, Malone and Newcomb—an additional 3 inches is possible, with localized totals of 5–7 inches along mountain slopes.

Forecasters warn that roads, bridges and overpasses will become slick as snow continues through the morning and into the evening commute. Gusts up to 35 mph will further reduce visibility in open areas and ridge lines, making travel more difficult in mountainous terrain.

Snowfall amounts will vary significantly by elevation, and conditions may change quickly over short distances. Commuters should plan for extra travel time and exercise caution, especially along untreated roads and winding mountain routes.

Travelers can check road conditions at NewEngland511.org for Vermont and 511NY.org for New York.

Residents venturing outside should also be cautious on sidewalks, driveways and steps, which may be icy.

Snow is expected to taper off by early evening as the system exits the region.
