Holdeness, NH – An Ashland man was taken into custody Wednesday night after authorities allege he operated a boat under the influence and threatened people along the shore of Squam Lake.
According to New Hampshire State Police, the incident unfolded at around 10:00 p.m. on July 30, 2025. Marine Patrol Officers responded to multiple reports of a hazardous boater allegedly threatening individuals near the lakefront.
Upon arrival, officers say they located the suspect, identified as Joseph D. Wescott, 44, of Ashland. Preliminary investigations indicated that Wescott had allegedly been boating while impaired, according to the state police release.
Wescott was arrested and charged with boating under the influence and criminal threatening. He was transported to the Grafton County Jail, where authorities say he was held pending an arraignment scheduled for Thursday, July 31, 2025.
Marine Patrol Officers were supported in their response by members of the Ashland Police Department and the Holderness Police Department.
