Springfield, Illinois – Showers and thunderstorms are set to linger across central Illinois through Saturday, bringing repeated rounds of rain that could disrupt travel and outdoor plans over the next several days.
According to the National Weather Service in Lincoln, unsettled conditions will persist through the end of the week, with storm chances around 70 percent today and increasing to near 90 percent Thursday. Temperatures will climb into the 70s Thursday and Friday before cooling slightly by the weekend.
Cities including Springfield, Decatur, Champaign, and Bloomington will see on-and-off rain through Saturday, with the potential for gusty winds and isolated thunderstorms, especially during the afternoon and evening hours. Thursday appears to bring the strongest storm potential, with breezy conditions adding to travel concerns on open roadways like I-55 and I-72.
By Saturday, temperatures will drop into the 50s with continued rain chances before a noticeable shift arrives Sunday.
