Springfield, OR – A missing elderly man who left home on a scooter without his necessary medication was found safe Sunday evening following a coordinated search involving deputies, volunteers, and drones, according to the Lane County Sheriff’s Office.
According to the Lane County Sheriff’s Office, deputies received a report at approximately 7:15 p.m. Sunday, July 20, of a missing elderly man in Springfield. Family members told authorities the man had left on a scooter and did not have the medication he needed.
Deputies and members of the Lane County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue team responded, with volunteers using vehicles and drones to assist in the search.
At approximately 8:25 p.m., search crews located the man along the bike path near the 2100 block of 37th Place in Springfield.
According to the sheriff’s office, paramedics evaluated the man at the scene before he was safely reunited with his family. Authorities did not report any serious injuries.
The Lane County Sheriff’s Office thanked the volunteers and search and rescue personnel who assisted in the operation, emphasizing that time is critical in missing person searches and recognizing the efforts that led to the successful outcome.
Officials did not release the man’s identity.
