Springfield, MO – Strong thunderstorms with heavy rainfall and wind gusts up to 60 mph may hit parts of southwest Missouri by late Monday night, with Springfield and areas west of Highway 65 most at risk for flash flooding.
According to the National Weather Service in Springfield, severe weather may develop as early as late Monday afternoon, with the greatest threat window stretching from 7 p.m. through early Tuesday. Residents along I-44 and west of Highway 65 should monitor conditions closely and prepare for rapidly changing weather, especially where localized flooding is likely.
Storms on Monday evening may bring large hail and damaging wind. NWS meteorologists warn that some of these storms could reach severe levels, particularly overnight Monday into early Tuesday. Spotter activation may be necessary west of Highway 65, where storms are expected to be most intense.
Tuesday’s forecast holds another round of thunderstorms during the afternoon. A 30% chance of storms remains, with highs near 73°F and strong south winds gusting to 26 mph.
