Springfield, Mo. – Southwest Missouri will see a noticeable cool-down starting Monday, with showers likely across the region and parts of southeast Kansas. Temperatures that reached the lower 90s this weekend will slide into the 70s as clouds and rain move in.
According to the National Weather Service in Springfield, scattered showers are expected Monday and Tuesday, with the best chance for rainfall in far southwest Missouri and nearby southeast Kansas. Rain chances range from 30 to 60 percent during this period, tapering off by midweek.
Cities including Joplin, Springfield, and Branson could see highs only in the mid to upper 70s, a drop from the summer heat that has dominated much of August. Drivers should prepare for slick spots during morning commutes, especially Monday. The rainfall is not expected to cause flooding but may briefly reduce visibility on highways such as I-44.
By Wednesday, drier air returns with highs in the low 80s and mostly sunny skies. The National Weather Service says additional rain chances could develop late in the week, but for now the unsettled pattern looks short-lived.
