Springfield, Mo. – Strong storms could hit the eastern Ozarks this afternoon, bringing wind gusts up to 50 mph, small hail, and heavy downpours. The National Weather Service says the highest storm chances will be east of Rolla and West Plains, where rainfall rates may cause localized flooding.

According to the NWS Springfield office, storm chances will taper to just a 10–20% risk overnight, with lows in the upper 60s. Any remaining showers should be isolated, mainly in far eastern counties.

Starting Wednesday, heat will quickly build across southern Missouri. Highs will climb into the low 90s midweek, reaching the mid to upper 90s by Friday and Saturday. Areas west of Springfield could touch 99°, with humidity pushing heat indices into dangerous territory. Officials recommend limiting outdoor activity during the hottest parts of the day, staying hydrated, and checking on vulnerable neighbors.

Drivers should also be alert for slick roads in the eastern Ozarks through tonight, especially along U.S. 60 and Route 63. The next round of significant heat will persist into early next week.
