Springfield, MO – Warm and breezy weather will continue through Friday before a cold front moves through the Missouri Ozarks late Friday night into Saturday, bringing a risk of thunderstorms, according to the US National Weather Service in Springfield.

High temperatures will reach the low to mid-80s Thursday and Friday—10 to 15 degrees above normal for mid-October. A cold front is expected to arrive late Friday, producing showers and thunderstorms into Saturday night. The strongest storms could occur Saturday afternoon and evening, particularly across southern Missouri and northern Arkansas.

Forecasters say a few storms could become strong to severe, with gusty winds and small hail possible. Rainfall amounts are expected to stay under an inch for most locations.

Behind the front, temperatures will cool sharply, with highs dropping into the upper 60s to low 70s Sunday and morning lows in the 40s by early next week. Above-average warmth earlier in the week has delayed the region’s first freeze, which typically occurs in late October.

Residents are encouraged to stay alert for updated forecasts and any potential severe weather watches issued Friday night or Saturday.
