Springfield, Mo. – A crisp start greeted much of Missouri on Tuesday morning, with temperatures dipping into the middle 40s across several towns before a sharp rebound later in the day. Salem and Pleasant Hope reported some of the coldest readings at 44 and 45 degrees, while Springfield settled at 52.
According to the National Weather Service in Springfield, the late-August chill will give way to a warmer afternoon, with highs expected to reach the upper 70s to lower 80s across the Ozarks. Cities like Joplin and Lebanon, which woke up to temperatures in the low 50s, will climb quickly as sunshine dominates the forecast.
The cooler-than-average morning provided an early taste of fall, though the afternoon shift back to warmth means residents should prepare for a wide swing in temperatures. Light jackets were needed at bus stops and early commutes, but shorts and T-shirts will be comfortable by midday.
The National Weather Service noted that no additional advisories are in effect, and dry conditions will hold through midweek. Residents can expect mild nights in the 50s and warmer afternoons through the weekend.
