Springfield, MO – The National Weather Service in Springfield says the Ozarks are in for a dramatic temperature drop this weekend as a strong cold front pushes through the region Saturday night.

Highs will climb into the upper 60s and low 70s through Friday, but a sharp cold front will arrive late Saturday, sending temperatures tumbling into the 30s and 40s by Sunday. Overnight lows are forecast to dip near or below freezing by early Monday, marking the coldest stretch so far this fall.

Despite the chill, the NWS says little to no precipitation is expected through the period, keeping the focus on the cold air and potential frost or freeze impacts. Winds will turn brisk from the north Saturday evening before easing Sunday.

Residents should take steps to protect sensitive plants and outdoor plumbing as the cold air settles in to start next week.
