Springfield, MO – The National Weather Service in Springfield reports a Frost Advisory remains in effect until 9 a.m. Friday for portions of southwest and central Missouri and southeast Kansas, with a Freeze Watch to follow late Saturday night through Sunday morning.

According to the NWS, morning lows near 31°F will bring widespread frost formation across the Ozarks region. A second, stronger cold front arriving this weekend could drop temperatures to near 30°F, resulting in a potential hard freeze.

The advisory and watch include areas such as Springfield, Joplin, Rolla, Lebanon, Branson, Fort Scott, and Lake of the Ozarks. Residents are urged to cover or bring in sensitive plants and insulate exposed outdoor plumbing to prevent freeze damage.

Forecasters warn that this may mark the end of the growing season for many across southern Missouri and southeast Kansas, as the first sub-freezing temperatures settle in by early Sunday morning.
