Texas, Mo. – Thunderstorms dropping more than 3 inches of rain sparked a flash flood warning Monday afternoon in east-central Texas County, raising concerns for drivers and residents in low-lying areas.

According to the National Weather Service office in Springfield, radar detected storms producing between 2 and 3.5 inches of rainfall across the region by mid-afternoon. The warning remains in effect until 7:30 p.m. CDT, with flooding already developing in creeks, streams, and along highways.

Communities including Raymondville and Yukon are expected to see flash flooding as runoff spreads quickly into poor drainage areas. Streets, underpasses, and rural roads may become impassable within hours, making travel especially hazardous.

Emergency officials stress that drivers should avoid flooded routes, even if water appears shallow. “Turn around, don’t drown” remains the guidance, as most flood-related deaths happen in vehicles.

The heaviest rainfall is expected to ease by this evening, but standing water could persist through late night. Additional flood advisories may follow if storms redevelop.
