Springfield, Missouri – Widespread rain chances return late Friday into the weekend, with up to 1 inch of rainfall possible along the I-44 corridor by early Sunday.
According to the National Weather Service in Springfield, above-normal temperatures in the 50s and 60s will continue through the end of the work week before a wetter pattern develops.
Rain probabilities increase Friday evening, with the highest chances Saturday into early Sunday morning. Forecast guidance indicates a 50 to 80 percent chance of measurable rainfall Saturday across much of southwest Missouri, including Springfield, Branson, Joplin, and Rolla.
Probability data show a strong signal for at least one-half inch of rainfall, particularly along and south of Interstate 44. Some locations could see totals exceeding 1 inch, especially in areas near U.S. Route 65 through Branson and U.S. Route 63 near West Plains.
Temperatures are expected to remain mild, with highs ranging from 53 to 65 degrees through Friday. Saturday’s highs will range between 52 and 58 degrees, with overnight lows in the upper 30s to low 40s.
While flooding is not currently forecast, periods of moderate rainfall could produce ponding on roadways and reduced visibility during heavier showers.
Drivers traveling along Interstate 44 from Joplin through Springfield to Rolla should prepare for wet pavement and slower travel speeds this weekend.
Students, weekend travelers, and delivery drivers should monitor forecast updates as rainfall timing becomes clearer.
