MISSOURI – The mild air moving through the Ozarks this morning feels like a brief reprieve, but don’t let it fool you. Springfield’s unseasonably warm Thursday near 57°F will quickly give way to a weekend cold snap, with highs tumbling into the 40s and lows bottoming out near 10°F by Sunday.

According to the National Weather Service in Springfield, temperatures will rise through Thursday under mostly sunny skies before a northwest wind shift Friday ushers in a noticeable chill. The warm-to-cold transition could be jarring — a 30° drop in 48 hours as Arctic air spreads into southern Missouri.

Friday stays seasonable near 47°F, but by Saturday, cold air dominates with highs around 46°F and wind chills in the 20s. Sunday will be the coldest day of the stretch, with a morning low near 10°F and a high barely reaching 28°F under mostly sunny skies.

Travelers should prepare for frosty windshields, icy patches on shaded bridges, and bitter morning commutes through early next week. After Sunday’s deep freeze, temperatures will slowly rebound, with mid-40s Monday and 50s returning by midweek.

5-Day Outlook (Dec. 11–15):
