Springfield, Missouri – Rain chances increase tonight into the weekend, with the heaviest coverage expected Saturday across southern Missouri.

According to the National Weather Service in Springfield, widespread rainfall will develop late Friday night and continue through Saturday, with showers lingering into Sunday morning. Most locations are forecast to receive between 0.75 and 1.00 inch of rain.

Localized pockets, especially along and near the southern Missouri border, could see between 1.5 and 2.0 inches. Some embedded thunder is possible near the Arkansas state line, though severe weather is not currently anticipated.

Despite the steady rainfall, officials say widespread flooding is not expected due to recent dry conditions. However, some rises in creeks and streams are possible, particularly in areas receiving the higher rainfall totals.

Communities including Springfield, Joplin, Branson and West Plains may experience periods of moderate rain Saturday. Drivers along I-44, US-65, US-63 and I-49 should prepare for wet roads and reduced visibility during heavier showers.

Outdoor plans Saturday may be impacted by persistent rainfall, especially during the daytime hours when coverage is expected to be greatest.

For students, weekend travelers and event organizers, Saturday presents the highest likelihood of rain-related disruptions before conditions gradually improve Sunday.
