Springfield, MO – Residents across southwest Missouri should prepare for multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms this week, with the greatest risk for heavy rain and flooding arriving Tuesday into Wednesday.

According to the US National Weather Service in Springfield, scattered storms are possible each day through Thursday. On Tuesday, storm chances climb to between 60% and 90%, bringing the potential for localized flooding and hazardous travel conditions. Storm activity is expected to remain strong into Wednesday, with another 30% to 80% chance of thunderstorms across the region.

Forecasters noted that Tuesday and Wednesday could bring the heaviest rainfall totals, and low-lying or flood-prone areas should be monitored closely. Commuters are urged to allow extra travel time and avoid driving through flooded roadways.

By Thursday, the chance of thunderstorms decreases to around 20% to 40%, with temperatures in the low 70s. Conditions are expected to clear by Friday, when mostly sunny skies and highs in the upper 70s will return to the area.

This stretch of stormy weather follows a trend of cooler conditions moving into Missouri for late September, according to meteorologists. The unsettled pattern is expected to give way to a drier, more comfortable start to the weekend.
