Springfield, MO – Thunderstorms are expected to bring heavy rain to parts of southwest Missouri today, raising the risk of localized flooding.

According to the National Weather Service in Springfield, a thunderstorm complex moving out of Kansas is forecast to impact areas southwest of the city on Saturday. Rainfall amounts of 0.5 to 1.5 inches are likely, but some localized areas could receive between 3 and 4 inches. Forecasters caution that this could lead to flooding in low-lying or poor-drainage areas.

Showers and thunderstorms are expected intermittently through the weekend and into early next week. Sunday will bring another round of rain chances, with temperatures ranging from the upper 70s to mid-80s. By Tuesday and Wednesday, conditions will cool slightly, with highs in the low 70s to around 80 degrees.

The National Weather Service notes that while not all areas will experience heavy rain, residents in southwest Missouri should remain alert for sudden downpours and flooding risks. Motorists are advised to use caution, especially on rural roads where water can accumulate quickly.

Residents are encouraged to monitor official forecasts for updates as conditions may change.
