Springfield, Missouri — Above-normal temperatures and dry conditions will provide a quiet and mild end to New Year’s Eve tonight, with similar weather continuing into New Year’s Day, according to the National Weather Service in Springfield.
Forecasters say New Year’s Eve temperatures will range from 46 to 55 degrees during the day, with overnight lows between 26 and 34 degrees under mostly clear skies. As 2026 begins at midnight, temperatures will be in the upper 20s to low 30s, remaining cold but not unusually so for late December.
On New Year’s Day (Thursday), highs are expected to rebound to 44–58 degrees, continuing the trend of above-average warmth across southwest Missouri. Skies will be partly cloudy, and no rain or snow is expected.
Major roadways including I-44, US-65, US-60, US-160, and MO-13 are expected to remain dry and clear through the holiday period, with no weather-related travel disruptions anticipated. Late-night drivers should still be mindful of colder temperatures that could create isolated frost on bridges in rural areas, though widespread issues are not expected.
Communities including Springfield, Joplin, Nixa, Ozark, Republic, and Branson should see favorable conditions for travel and outdoor celebrations. Winds will remain light, further limiting weather concerns.
No watches, warnings, or advisories are in effect for the region. The National Weather Service notes this stretch of calm weather offers a smooth transition into 2026, especially for those traveling or celebrating outdoors.
Residents are advised to dress appropriately for cooler late-night temperatures but can otherwise expect a pleasant and uneventful start to the New Year.
