Springfield, Missouri – A fast-moving line of showers and thunderstorms is expected to pass through the Springfield area on Sunday, bringing gusty winds and a low chance of isolated severe storms.
According to the National Weather Service in Springfield, scattered showers and thunderstorms will move quickly across southwest Missouri, with rain chances between 50% and 80%. While most storms are expected to remain non-severe, forecasters note a 5% chance for a few storms capable of producing damaging wind gusts.
The storm line is expected to first develop along the I-49 corridor between 8 a.m. and 11 a.m., then move into the Springfield metro area between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. The line is forecast to clear the region between 3 p.m. and 7 p.m., moving east into the Ozarks.
Wind gusts of 30–50 mph are possible as storms move through Springfield, with localized gusts up to 50–60 mph farther east during the afternoon. Any rainfall is expected to be brief, generally lasting less than one hour, with total rainfall amounts limited to a quarter inch or less.
A few lightning strikes are also possible, particularly during the late morning and early afternoon window.
The timing places the highest impact during late-morning church services, early afternoon travel, and outdoor activities, when sudden gusts could affect high-profile vehicles and unsecured objects.
Residents are encouraged to remain weather-aware and monitor updates in case stronger storms develop.
