Springfield, Missouri – Dangerous cold conditions are expected across the Springfield area, prompting a Cold Weather Advisory through midday Saturday.

According to the National Weather Service in Springfield, the advisory is in effect from Friday night through 12 p.m. Saturday. Overnight low temperatures are forecast to fall between 0 and 10 degrees, while wind chills drop to between -5 and -15 degrees, creating a heightened risk for frostbite on exposed skin.

Daytime high temperatures on Saturday are expected to remain below 20 degrees, offering little relief from the cold. The combination of low temperatures and wind will make outdoor conditions hazardous, especially during the overnight and early morning hours.

The advisory covers much of southwest Missouri, including Springfield, Joplin, Branson, and surrounding Ozarks communities. The National Weather Service warns that prolonged exposure could lead to hypothermia, and cold conditions may also increase the risk of frozen pipes.

Residents are urged to dress in layers, cover exposed skin, and limit time outdoors. Officials also recommend checking on elderly neighbors, ensuring pets have adequate shelter, and protecting pipes from freezing.

Cold-sensitive populations, including students waiting for buses, outdoor workers, and early-morning commuters, may be particularly affected.

Temperatures are expected to slowly moderate later in the weekend, but officials advise continuing to monitor official forecasts for updates.
