Springfield, Missouri – Storms could bring flash flooding and dangerous heat to southwest Missouri starting Sunday, as a wave of showers and thunderstorms rolls through the state. Rain chances climb to 70% by Sunday afternoon, with heat index values soaring as high as 100° in some areas.

According to the National Weather Service in Springfield, localized flash flooding is possible Sunday and Monday, particularly in areas that see multiple rounds of rain. Rain chances both days range from 40% to 70%, with humidity and heat making outdoor activity potentially hazardous.

Cities including Springfield, Branson, and Joplin could see brief periods of heavy rainfall, low visibility, and water pooling on roads. Overnight lows stay sticky in the upper 60s to low 70s, providing little relief. Commuters are urged to watch for ponding water during the Monday morning drive and avoid low-lying routes.

Temperatures will remain near or just under 90° through Thursday, with lower rain chances returning midweek. Residents should check gutters, secure outdoor furniture, and prepare for possible power outages in flood-prone areas.

Weather alerts may be issued if conditions worsen. Stay tuned for updates as storm chances continue through Monday.
