Springfield, Missouri – Arctic air is set to make a sharp return across southwest Missouri and extreme southeast Kansas by early Saturday, with overnight lows dipping back below zero. The cold snap will follow a stretch of dry but chilly days, as a secondary cold front pushes into the region late Friday.

According to the National Weather Service in Springfield, temperatures Friday night will drop to between -1 and 3 degrees, with Saturday morning wind chills potentially dipping even lower. While no snow is expected, cold-weather hazards like frozen pipes and slick roads from refreezing moisture are possible, especially in rural areas and shaded spots. Daytime highs Saturday may struggle to climb past the mid-20s.

The Ozarks will remain mostly dry through the week, with gradually falling highs from near 40 degrees midweek to the low 20s by the weekend. Springfield, Branson, and West Plains will all see a steep temperature drop Friday night. Residents should plan to limit outdoor exposure, check heating systems, and bring pets indoors.

Cold-weather advisories may follow as temperatures remain frigid through the weekend and early next week.
