Springfield, Mo. – Thunderstorms are expected to move across southern Missouri this evening, with additional rain chances returning Sunday as cooler air settles into the region. Highs that soared into the mid-90s Thursday will steadily fall into the 70s and 80s by early next week.
According to the National Weather Service in Springfield, storms could bring up to a half inch of rain through Saturday, though widespread heavy rainfall is not anticipated. The greatest chance for showers comes Thursday evening and again late Sunday, with coverage ranging from 40 to 70 percent in many counties.
Communities across the Ozarks, including Branson, Joplin, and Rolla, should be prepared for brief downpours and lightning during evening commutes and weekend events. While flooding is not expected, forecasters recommend keeping an umbrella handy and watching for slick roads during heavier bursts of rain.
Temperatures will ease closer to seasonal averages, with nighttime lows dipping into the low 60s. That shift will provide a break from the early-week heat but keep humidity levels high during storm periods.
Rain chances linger into Monday before drier conditions return. Additional advisories could be issued if storm coverage increases.
