Springfield, Mo. – Dangerous heat will grip much of Missouri through Monday evening, with heat index values pushing 105° in some areas. The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory from noon Friday to 8 p.m. Monday, warning that prolonged outdoor activity could lead to heat exhaustion or heat stroke. Overnight lows will remain warm, staying in the upper 60s to mid-70s, offering little relief.
According to the National Weather Service in Springfield, temperatures will climb into the mid to upper 90s each day, with peak heat index readings between 95° and 105°. Rain chances remain slim, under 20%, with only isolated afternoon storms possible Saturday and Tuesday.
The excessive heat comes as abnormally dry conditions spread across the region. Drought Monitor data shows much of southwest and central Missouri in a D0 “abnormally dry” state, with pockets of moderate drought. The lack of rainfall combined with the heat will likely worsen these conditions next week.
Residents are urged to limit strenuous outdoor activity, drink plenty of water, and never leave children or pets in vehicles. Warnings remain in effect through Monday, with additional advisories possible if the heat lingers.
