Springfield, Mo. – Southwest Missouri will remain under a Heat Advisory through 8 p.m. Monday as heat index values soar between 95 and 105 degrees. Afternoon highs will stay in the middle to upper 90s, with some locations reaching 100. The combination of high humidity and warm overnight lows in the upper 60s to mid-70s will prevent much relief.

According to the National Weather Service in Springfield, only a slight chance of afternoon storms is expected, with rain chances staying under 30 percent through midweek. The most likely times for isolated pop-up storms will be Saturday, Tuesday, and Wednesday afternoons, but most areas will remain dry.

Areas including Springfield, Joplin, Branson, and Rolla are expected to experience multiple days of oppressive heat, which can cause heat exhaustion or heat stroke if precautions are not taken. Residents are urged to limit strenuous outdoor activity, drink plenty of water, and never leave children or pets in vehicles.

The advisory is expected to expire Monday evening, but temperatures will stay hot until midweek when a slight cool-down is forecast.
