Springfield, Massachusetts – Six individuals were arrested after a two-day narcotics and firearms operation in Springfield, resulting in the seizure of thousands of fentanyl doses and multiple weapons.

According to the Massachusetts State Police, the Commonwealth Interstate Narcotics Reduction Enforcement Team (CINRET) conducted coordinated operations on Monday and Tuesday, Feb. 10 and 11, targeting drug trafficking rings operating in the city.

Authorities said the first investigation followed a four-month probe into an alleged drug trafficking ring with connections in Massachusetts and Puerto Rico. That operation culminated in six simultaneous search warrants executed across Springfield.

The second operation targeted a mid-level fentanyl trafficker operating in the greater Springfield area, according to state police.

As a result of both operations, law enforcement officials said they seized:

  • 15 handguns
  • 6 rifles
  • 11 large-capacity magazines
  • Hundreds of rounds of ammunition
  • Approximately $63,000 in U.S. currency
  • Approximately 8.5 kilograms of cocaine
  • Approximately 30,000 bags of fentanyl

Multiple agencies assisted in the investigation, including the MSP Gang Unit, Springfield Police Firearms Investigation Unit, the Drug Enforcement Administration, FBI, Homeland Security Investigations, and other federal and county partners.

Officials did not release the names of those arrested as of Wednesday. The investigation remains ongoing.

The operation may be of particular concern to local students and young adults, as fentanyl continues to drive overdose risks across Hampden County.
