Springfield, Ill. – Storm chances are on the rise across central Illinois, with isolated to scattered thunderstorms expected at times through midweek. The National Weather Service says the highest coverage is likely on Tuesday, when parts of the region could see a 50–55% chance of rain.
According to the NWS Lincoln office, Monday will feature warm, humid conditions with spotty showers possible, especially in Bloomington, Springfield, and Peoria. By Tuesday, storm activity is forecast to expand, bringing the greatest rain chances from late morning through the afternoon. Areas such as Danville, Galesburg, and Effingham could experience brief downpours and lightning during peak heating hours.
Roads may become slick during heavier showers, and outdoor events could face interruptions. Residents are encouraged to keep an eye on radar updates and move indoors quickly if storms develop. While severe weather is not the main concern, lightning and brief gusty winds remain possible hazards.
The storm pattern is expected to taper by Thursday, with lower rain chances and seasonable temperatures holding in the low-to-mid 80s.
