Lincoln, IL – A shift to cooler and breezier fall weather is underway across central and southeast Illinois as a cold front exits the region, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Lincoln.

Morning showers are expected to taper off by midday Sunday, followed by northwest wind gusts up to 40 mph. Forecasters say the next few days will stay windy but mainly dry, with southerly gusts over 30 mph Monday and west winds topping 30 mph Tuesday.

Temperatures will level off to seasonable fall values, with highs in the upper 50s to upper 60s and overnight lows dipping into the mid-30s to low-40s by midweek. A slight chance of light showers north of I-72 is possible Monday night, but otherwise the week looks mostly dry with clear to partly sunny skies.

The NWS advises residents to secure lightweight outdoor objects and prepare for cooler mornings as the region settles into a more typical late-October weather pattern.
