Springfield, IL – A Springfield man was taken into custody early Tuesday after police responded to a burglary in progress at a commercial business on the 2100 block of South 8th Street.

According to the Springfield Police Department, officers were dispatched at approximately 12:19 a.m. on September 29 after reports of a break-in. The property, surrounded by barbed wire and heavy foliage, made access difficult for officers. Upon arrival, police confirmed at least one suspect was on the property.

Officers deployed a K9 unit and began tracking through an area that was otherwise impassable. A drone was then used to search overhead, ultimately detecting a heat signature between two outbuildings. Police moved in, located the suspect, and took him into custody.

The suspect was identified as 35-year-old Austin Fore of Springfield. According to police, Fore was arrested on charges of burglary, theft, criminal damage to property, possession of burglary tools, and criminal trespass. He was transferred to the custody of the Sangamon County Jail.

Police emphasized that arrests are based on probable cause, and all individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Anyone with additional information about this incident is asked to contact the Springfield Police Department at 217-788-8311 or Sangamon/Menard County Crime Stoppers at 217-788-8427.
