Springfield, Illinois – Light snow could affect parts of central Illinois Saturday, with brief slick roadways possible, especially north of Interstate 72.

According to the National Weather Service Central Illinois, minimal snow accumulations are expected across the region, though probabilities increase north of I-72. Forecasters report a 30 to 70 percent chance of one-tenth of an inch of snow or more in northern portions of central Illinois.

The weather setup is expected to begin as rain before changing to snow on Saturday. Areas south of I-72 have a lower risk, with accumulation chances below 20 percent, while locations farther north have the highest likelihood for measurable snowfall.

While totals are expected to remain light, officials caution that brief slick road conditions could develop, particularly during periods of snowfall Saturday into Saturday night. Even minimal accumulation may impact untreated roads, bridges, and overpasses.

The National Weather Service advises residents and travelers to remain alert for changing road conditions and allow extra time if traveling during the transition from rain to snow.

For commuters, even light snowfall could slow traffic during peak travel periods, especially in areas north of Springfield.

More updates may be issued if conditions or probabilities change.
