Springfield, IL – Rain showers are set to taper off today across central Illinois as a storm system moves southeast, giving way to drier and cooler weather through the end of the week, according to the National Weather Service in Lincoln.

Wednesday will start with lingering light showers south of I-70, but skies will gradually clear by afternoon, leading to a breezy and partly cloudy day. Highs will reach the low to upper 50s, with lows dipping into the upper 30s overnight.

From Thursday through Sunday, forecasters expect a stretch of dry and partly cloudy conditions, with daytime highs ranging between 55 and 61 degrees and overnight lows between 35 and 40 degrees. Temperatures will remain slightly below seasonal averages, with a mild warming trend expected early next week.

Residents can look forward to pleasant fall conditions heading into the weekend, ideal for outdoor plans or late-October activities.
