Springfield, IL – Another frosty night is ahead for central and southeast Illinois, with temperatures expected to fall well below freezing overnight, according to the National Weather Service in Lincoln.

A Freeze Warning or Frost Advisory is in effect from 1 a.m. to 9 a.m. Friday, covering much of the state from Jacksonville to Lawrenceville and north toward the I-74 corridor. Lows are forecast to range from the upper 20s near Peoria and Bloomington to around 32–33°F farther south.

Residents are urged to bring plants indoors or cover sensitive vegetation to prevent frost damage. The NWS cautions that continued cold conditions could end the growing season across several central Illinois counties.

Friday morning will be the coldest of the week, but gradual warming is expected heading into the weekend, with highs returning to the 50s and low 60s under partly sunny skies.
