Springfield, MO – Unseasonably warm and breezy conditions are expected across southwest Missouri on Christmas Day, with temperatures approaching record levels for late December.

According to the National Weather Service in Springfield, high temperatures in the low to mid-70s are forecast this afternoon, with southerly winds contributing to a warm and breezy day. Forecasters noted that temperatures may come near record-breaking levels for Dec. 25.

Christmas night is expected to remain mild, with overnight lows ranging from the mid-50s to lower 60s. The National Weather Service said patchy fog may develop overnight, especially in areas where winds diminish.

Warm conditions are expected to persist through Friday and Saturday, with forecast highs ranging from the upper 60s to upper 70s. Additional morning fog remains possible Friday.

Looking ahead to Sunday, the National Weather Service said a cold front will move into the region, bringing shower and thunderstorm chances of 40 to 60 percent. Cooler air is expected to arrive behind the front, with much colder temperatures forecast for Monday, when highs are projected to fall into the upper 20s to lower 30s.

Residents planning holiday travel or outdoor activities are encouraged to stay updated on forecast changes, especially as the late-week cold front approaches.
