Spotsylvania, VA Fatal Hit-and-Run: Pedestrian Killed on Patriot Highway

Spotsylvania, VA – A man was killed late Saturday night in a hit-and-run crash along Patriot Highway, according to the Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded around 11:55 p.m. on October 11, 2025, to the 10200 block of Patriot Highway, where a pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle. When first responders arrived, they found a male victim lying in the roadway. Spotsylvania Fire Rescue personnel pronounced him dead at the scene.

According to Major Delbert Myrick, the driver involved had already fled before deputies arrived. Authorities identified the victim as 61-year-old James Bjesse, who had no fixed address. His next of kin has been notified.

Investigators from the Traffic Reconstruction Unit are now searching for the vehicle shown in nearby surveillance footage. The Sheriff’s Office released an image of a dark-colored pickup truck believed to be connected to the fatal collision.
