Spotsylvania County, VA – Three men were charged after gunfire erupted at a Spotsylvania County party late Saturday.
According to the Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded around 11:30 p.m. Saturday, February 14, to reports of a shooting in the 8100 block of Granite Springs Road. Earlier that evening, deputies had responded to a disturbance at a large party at the same address and cleared the scene after addressing the situation.
Authorities said a second call came in after another fight reportedly broke out. During that call, numerous gunshots were heard, with the caller reporting shots fired from the roadway as people were leaving the party.
First responding deputies located multiple shell casings in the roadway and observed a gray Volkswagen sedan repeatedly driving past the residence, according to the Sheriff’s Office. The vehicle was stopped and found to contain six male occupants. Deputies reported observing four pistols inside the vehicle, several in plain view. Five pistols were ultimately seized, including a firearm involved in what investigators described as a negligent discharge.
Initially, no victims were located at the scene. A short time later, a male arrived at a local hospital with a gunshot wound. According to investigators, the individual first claimed he was shot while breaking up a fight but later admitted he allegedly shot himself accidentally. He was airlifted to another hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Following the investigation, Gavyn Canard, 18, of Culpeper, was charged with profane swearing or intoxication in public. Keyshaun Jackson, 19, of Culpeper, was charged with reckless handling of a firearm and carrying a concealed weapon without a permit. Dorian Jackson, 19, also of Culpeper, was charged with discharging a firearm in public.
All three were transported to Rappahannock Regional Jail.
The incident may raise concerns for young adults and students attending large gatherings in the area.
