Spokane, Wash. – Triple-digit heat will push Spokane residents into dangerous territory Monday as highs climb to 100°F under a lingering heat advisory. Haziness will blanket much of the area, reducing visibility and creating added risks for drivers on Interstate 90 and surrounding highways. Officials urge residents to limit outdoor activity and stay hydrated as conditions peak through Wednesday.

According to the National Weather Service, the advisory remains in effect until 9 p.m. Wednesday, with highs reaching near 98°F today, 100°F Monday, and upper 90s on Tuesday. Nights will offer little relief, with lows only dipping into the 60s. The combination of stagnant haze, elevated ozone levels, and high heat will stress vulnerable groups, especially children, the elderly, and outdoor workers.

Travelers on I-90 between Spokane and Medical Lake should prepare for reduced visibility. Road crews also caution drivers about overheating engines and tire blowouts in extreme heat. Emergency officials recommend avoiding nonessential travel during the hottest hours and checking on neighbors without air conditioning.

By midweek, some relief may arrive as cloud cover builds and a slight chance of showers appears Wednesday night into Thursday. Daytime highs will moderate slightly by Thursday and Friday, settling back into the upper 80s.

The heat wave’s persistence highlights the region’s growing risk of late-summer fire danger. Residents are urged to avoid outdoor burning and follow local restrictions. Warnings could extend if temperatures fail to drop by late week.
