Washington — Snowflakes begin to thicken in the air this morning across the Inland Northwest, sticking to windshields and sidewalks as Winter Weather tightens its grip on Spokane. Roads look wet now, but conditions are expected to deteriorate quickly as snow intensity increases later today.

According to the National Weather Service, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect from late morning through the evening for Spokane’s higher elevations. Snow accumulations of up to two inches are possible, especially in areas like Airway Heights, Fairchild, Rockford, Cheney, Spokane Valley, and Davenport. Temperatures hovering near freezing will allow snow to accumulate efficiently during heavier bursts.

This morning starts relatively mild, with temperatures in the mid-30s and rain mixing with snow. By late morning, colder air slides in, flipping precipitation to snow. Winds pick up from the southwest, gusting near 30 mph at times. Those gusts could reduce visibility during heavier snow showers.

Travel impacts increase through the afternoon and into the evening commute. Slushy road surfaces, slick bridges, and sudden whiteout conditions are possible. Drivers along I-90, U.S. 2, and U.S. 395 should plan extra time and expect slower speeds. School traffic returning after the holiday break adds another layer of caution today.

Snow tapers tonight, but Winter Weather lingers. Breezy conditions continue, and temperatures drop into the low 30s. A rain and snow mix may redevelop at times Wednesday, with additional light accumulation possible, mainly during the morning and evening hours.

Thursday trends quieter but colder. Clouds break for partial sunshine, yet highs stay in the upper 30s. Overnight lows dip into the upper 20s, raising concerns for refreezing and black ice early each morning.

Looking ahead, Friday brings a modest break with drier conditions and highs near 41. The weekend turns partly sunny and calmer, though winter remains firmly in control.
