SPOKANE, Wash. – Wildfire danger across Washington is climbing sharply as the National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for the Cascades and Methow Valley through Tuesday. Hot, dry, and unstable air combined with the chance for thunderstorms could trigger rapid fire growth and gusty winds.

According to the National Weather Service Spokane, storm chances remain limited Monday, ranging from 5 to 10 percent, but increase significantly Tuesday, when the risk rises to 20 to 25 percent. These storms could spark new fires while producing erratic outflow winds capable of spreading flames quickly.

Areas of highest concern include towns such as Omak, Winthrop, Carlton, Leavenworth, and Wenatchee, where dry vegetation is already primed to ignite. Fire crews warn that lightning strikes paired with strong winds could overwhelm containment efforts.

Residents are urged to avoid activities that may cause sparks, such as driving or parking on dry grass. Officials also stress the importance of securing trailer chains, properly extinguishing campfires, and adhering to local burn restrictions.

The Red Flag Warning remains in effect until Tuesday evening, and additional alerts may be issued if storms develop more widely across the region.
