Spokane, WA – Drivers planning to travel through Washington’s mountain passes this weekend should prepare for winter-like conditions, according to the National Weather Service in Spokane. Forecasters are calling for several inches of snow across the Cascades and northern Idaho ranges from Saturday afternoon through Sunday.

According to the NWS, snow levels will drop to around 5,000 feet tonight before falling near 3,500 feet by Sunday morning. Early snow impacts are expected around Washington Pass west of Mazama, while Stevens, Sherman, and Lookout passes will see heavier snowfall Saturday night into Sunday.

The weather service says up to a foot of accumulation is possible in higher elevations, with lighter totals of 2–4 inches across the eastern ranges. Drivers should anticipate slick roads, reduced visibility, and possible travel delays.

Motorists are urged to check current forecasts and pass conditions before traveling and to carry winter driving essentials as early-season snow arrives across the region.
