Spokane, WA – A High Wind Warning is in effect Wednesday morning and early afternoon for parts of southeast Washington and north-central Idaho, where damaging wind gusts are expected.
According to the National Weather Service in Spokane, south to southeast winds will strengthen overnight and peak between 7 a.m. and 2 p.m. Wednesday. Wind gusts of 50 to 60 miles per hour are forecast across Lewis and southern Nez Perce counties, as well as Lower Garfield and Asotin counties.
Forecasters warn that the strongest winds could lead to hazardous conditions, particularly in exposed and higher terrain. Blown debris, unsecured outdoor objects, and falling tree limbs are possible during the warning period. Isolated power outages may occur if trees or branches contact power lines.
Travel could become difficult for high-profile vehicles such as trucks, vans, and trailers, especially along north-south oriented roadways and open stretches of highway. Drivers are urged to use caution and consider delaying travel during peak wind hours if possible.
The National Weather Service noted that winds will gradually diminish later Wednesday afternoon as the system moves east. However, conditions may change quickly during the warning window.
This warning is especially relevant for commuters, commercial drivers, and residents in the Lewiston area and surrounding communities who may be traveling during the late morning hours.
Residents are advised to secure loose outdoor items, remain alert for downed branches, and monitor local forecasts for any updates or extensions to the warning.
