Spokane Valley, WA – A tense hours-long standoff in Spokane Valley ended peacefully Saturday evening after deputies arrested an armed man reportedly in crisis, according to the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies were called around 4 p.m. on January 5 to an apartment complex in the 11000 block of E. 3rd Avenue for a welfare check on a 57-year-old man later identified as Jeffrey B. Hanson. Deputies say Hanson allegedly made threats of violence and was known to answer his door while holding a firearm.

According to authorities, attempts to contact Hanson by phone were unsuccessful. About 30 minutes later, dispatchers received a related call from a neighbor who said the man had allegedly pointed a gun at him, prompting officers to request SWAT, crisis negotiators, and additional support.

Deputies established a perimeter, issued warnings, and worked to de-escalate the situation before obtaining a search warrant. Around 7:10 p.m., SWAT team members safely took Hanson into custody without injury.

Investigators recovered 12 firearms, two air rifles, several holsters, and large quantities of ammunition in various calibers. Hanson was booked into the Spokane County Jail on suspicion of second-degree assault and displaying weapons apparently capable of producing bodily harm.

The Sheriff’s Office credited coordination between deputies, crisis negotiators, and SWAT for the peaceful outcome.
