Spokane Valley, WA – Spokane Valley Deputies responding to a reported fight Thursday evening say a 54-year-old man allegedly attacked officers while being taken into custody on a felony warrant.

According to the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called around 5:45 p.m. on December 17, 2025, to a home near East Augusta Avenue and North Glenn Road. Two men were reportedly fighting, and one appeared injured. Deputies identified the suspect as Gerald L. Patten, who was found to have an active felony warrant for first-degree trafficking in stolen property.

Investigators say Patten appeared intoxicated and uncooperative. As deputies worked to separate the two men, Patten allegedly became aggressive—pushing one deputy, throwing a punch, and attempting to grab another deputy’s throat. Additional units were called to assist as deputies struggled to restrain him.

After being medically evaluated, Patten was cleared and booked into the Spokane County Jail. He now faces his existing felony warrant as well as two new felony counts of third-degree assault on law enforcement officers.

Deputies sustained only minor injuries during the altercation, according to the sheriff’s office.
